New Hyundai Xcent vs Old: What Has Changed?

Hyundai launched the updated version of its compact sedan yesterday. Priced from Rs 5.38 lakh, the new Xcent gets a host of changes in terms of design tweaks, extra features and a bigger diesel engine. Lets have a look at the pricing of the new Hyundai Xcent (these are ex-showroom Delhi)

So what all has changed in the new Hyundai Xcent? For starters, Hyundai has made sure this new model looks a lot different than its own hatchback sibling. The front gets a dash of extra chrome, DRLs and a revised bumper with lower black insert that runs along the length. However, all the action is at the back.

The older Xcent was often criticized for a rather ugly looking rear but the new one looks so much better. The revised bumper and European look alike tail lamps bring along a sea of change in this area.

On the inside, the Xcent continues to offer an airy cabin with lot of practical touches. In terms of features, you now get a large 7 inch touch screen display that also supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Boot space remains identical to the outgoing version : 407 litres!

New vs Old

For us, the biggest change in the new Xcent comes in the form of the bigger diesel engine. This was first seen in the Grand i10 and continues to do duties here as well. It is still a 3 cylinder unit but displacement, power and torque have improved. This new 1.2-litre unit puts out 75 bhp of power which means performance has improved a lot. Inspite of added punch, the new Xcent diesel offers an ARAI tested economy of 25.4kmpl. The petrol engine remains unchanged.

The new Xcent will soon see massive competition from the all-new Maruti Dzire that is scheduled to be launched later next month. Stay tuned!
