Cartoq has come up with a render design of the upcoming 7-seater SUV from Tata Motors. Code named Q502, this all-new SUV will be launched next year and will lock horns with rivals like the Mahindra XUV500 and Jeep Compass. For the uninitiated, the Q501 will be a smaller 5-seater while this, the Q502 will be a 7-seater.
The rendering shows clear similarities with the Land Rover Discovery Sport. However, elements like Tata’s ‘Infinity’ design for the grille have been carried forward. Tata’s new range of Q SUVs will be based on the same platform as the Discovery Sport which means we can expect the Q502 to weight far less than the Safari Storme or the Hexa. In fact, the extra weight has hampered the overall performance of the Hexa to a huge extent.
The Q502 is expected to be powered by a new 2.0-litre turbo-charged diesel motor, the same that powers the Compass too. A smaller engine is lighter and will also offer better fuel economy. Expect it to come with both a 6-speed manual as well as a 6-speed automatic gearbox. 4WD will also be offered as optional.
