The Indian mass car market is flooded with options – there is a car for every need. However, if you are looking at thrills and want a car that is powerful enough for those grinning moments or quick highway runs or even tackling the steepest of inclines, this is the list you should be looking at.
We decided to run through all the options available in the Indian car market and came up with the list of the most powerful options under Rs 10 lakh. While all these vehicles might not tick the right boxes for an enthusiast, they do end up putting out a lot of horses.
- Fiat Avventura Twins
Price: Rs 9.85 onwards
Power: 140 bhp
This car had to top the list. For a moment just forget the low numbers this company does and the extremely poor resale value and look at that potent engine – the 1.4-litre turbo-charged petrol engine belts out 140 horses. There are two versions available, the standard and the Urban Cross and though this car is short on passenger space, it will turn heads easily and drives like a big go kart. Try finding one cheap in the used car market!
2. New Hyundai Verna 1.6 Diesel
Price: 9.2 lakh onwards
Power: 126 bhp
The new Verna not only looks beautiful but also carries over the same powerful 1.6 engine options. The diesel one makes 126 bhp along with 260 Nm of torque that makes it so enjoyable when driven in the right rpm band. Yes it still doesn’t handle like a dream but hey, this is supposed to be a family sedan after all. On long drives, when the kids and your better half are belted up and sleeping, try secretly unleashing all those horses on open roads!
3. Ford EcoSport 1.0
Price: Rs 8.64 lakh onwards
Power: 123 bhp
Yes, this list has two SUV options as well. Not many know that the EcoSport also comes with an optional 3 cylinder 999cc engine with 123 bhp of power on tap. You need to drive this with a heavy right foot to understand the kind of performance on tap. More than that, thanks to a turbo charger, there is ample torque on tap too. If you are serious about this one, hang on for a few weeks as the new EcoSport is just around the corner!
4. New Hyundai Verna 1.6 Petrol
Price: 7.99 lakh
Power: 121 bhp
The Verna again makes an appearance here, thanks to the 1.6 petrol engine option. This one is Rs 1.3 lakh cheaper than the diesel version and makes just 5 bhp less – not a bad option for those who hate oil burners. Like the diesel version, this one too gets a 6 speed manual transmission. All other features remain same.
5. Hyundai Creta 1.6 Petrol
Price: Rs 8.92 lakh onwards
Power: 121 bhp
Don’t want a sedan? No problem says Hyundai – for Rs 93k over the petrol Verna, you can opt for the petrol Creta. Yes the extra weight does hamper performance but then this one is a proper 5 seater SUV as compared to the smaller EcoSport. The waiting period will bother you but the car, err, SUV is worth it.
Pre-owned options – if you do not want a new car, then the doors open up to a world of options when it comes to used cars. Try finding a less used 163 bhp Chevrolet Cruze diesel for Rs 6-8 lakh (thanks to the company shutting their Indian operations) or a higher used 148 bhp petrol Octavia for Rs 8-10 lakh. Happy shopping!
